Acne Scars

Acne scars can be detrimental to ones social life, and it affects everyone at one time or another on different levels.  Not all marks left behind by acne is a permanent scar though.  Pseudo-scars are often mistaken for permanent scars, but only have a life span of about 6 months after the acne is gone.  These are scars that are red or reddish spots that are the final stage of most inflamed acne lesions.  Once a pseudo-scar is gone……it is gone for good, leaving no trace unlike a real scar.

You may also experience post-inflammatory pigmentation.  This a discoloration of the skin were an inflamed acne lesion has healed or is healing.  Post-inflammatory pigmentation has been known to persist for up to 18 months, and may be sped along with the help of a chemical peel.

Some Causes of Acne Scars

The easiest way to describe an acne scar is a visible injury to tissue and its repair.  The injury is caused byacne-1 the bodies infammatory responce to bacteria and dead cells in a plugged follicle. The main two types of scars that exist are depressed areas on the skin such as ice-pick scars and raised thickened tissue such as keloids.  It is your bodies natural responce to repair itself when injured, but your body may not do the cleanest job resulting in the lefrt over scar for all to see.  Peoples skin all respond uniquely with scars allowing some to dissapeer over time while others may keep scars for life.

The absolute best way to treat scars is to beat them at their earliest starges and to treat them for as long as it takes.  The less the acne is inflammed over its short lifetime the less chance your body has of scarring.  If you have acne scars or you are known to scar easily the best treatment you can recieve will come from that of a dermatologist.
