Acne Scar Surgery Options
Certain acne scars have to be treated early to reduce their visibility and size later in life. Different types of acne scars require different method of treatments. Some may just require topical treatments; while others may require acne scar surgery.
Some of the methods for acne scar surgery available today are Chemical peels, Collagen injection, Dermabrasion, Laser Treatment, Microdermabrasion, and Subcision.
A chemical acne scar peel is chemical solution that causes the skin to blister and eventually peel off. With this treatment, the facial skin is improved and the texture is smoothed.
Collagen injection is done by injecting collagen beneath the surface of the skin; thus filling up the scar.
Dermabrasion is a medical procedure which uses abrasion to remove the surface of the skin.
Laser Treatment uses lasers of various wavelength and intensity to recontour scar tissue and reduce the redness of skin around healed acne lesions. The scars are softened as the body regenerates the areas of microthermal wounding over the course of several treatments.
Microdermabrasion uses three methods such as crystal microdermabrasion, diamond microdermabrasion, and home microdermabrasion. The first method uses crystal in exfoliating the skin, the second uses diamond tipped head to scrape the skin surface, and the last one, uses tiny particles to “sand” the scarred skin surface.
Subcision involves the separation of the skin tissue of the affected area from the deeper scar tissue which allows the blood to pool under the affected area, thus making the shallow part of the skin to be level off with the rest of the skin area.
Before undergoing any type of surgery, important aspects should be given consideration, such as: your opinion or feeling towards your scar and about undergoing a surgical procedure, the type and severity of the scar, and your age, overall health, and medical history.
