Acne Medication
Acne medication is classified into two categories. These are over-the-counter drugs and prescription medications for acne.
Some of the over-the-counter acne medications are the following:
Benzoyl Peroxide (Neutrogena On-the-Spot, Clearasil, Oxy-10 Fostex, Clear by Design, Persa-Gel)
Salicylic Acid (Stri-dex, Clearasil Clearstick, Oxy Night Watch)
Sulfur (Clearasil Adult Care)
Resorcinol (Clearasil Adult Care)
The above mentioned acne medications (along with brands that contain these as ingredients) do not need prescriptions from doctors as these are safe to use, especially when used following the instructions.
Other medications for acne need prescriptions as these may cause health problems. Some of these are those that contain the following as ingredients.
Adapalene
Azelaic Acid
Clindamycin
Erythromycin
Isotretinoin
Sodium Sulfacetamide
Tazatorene
Tretinoin
Spironolactone
Not every product that contains these needs prescription; there are others that can be bought over the counter.
Oral antibiotics and oral contraceptives are also effective acne medication. In fact, a popular name of oral contraceptive includes acne treatment as part of their campaign.
The choice for acne medication is suggested to be supported by a professional’s advice. While the treatments has been classified according to skin types (dry, oily), it is true that a treatment for someone with similar skin type may not work for you. This is a fact as acne is actually caused by factors like hormone balance and skin’s natural pace of renewal system, which are unique in every individual.
